Thomas enters a dilapidated Victorian house and finds Charlotte again - a three-foot porcelain doll who is the Network oldest surviving subject, transformed 57 years ago.

Tomas and Karthian squad explore a phosphorescent fungal chamber. A soldier (Jorek) dies horribly after touching fungal residue, consumed from within by spores. Progenitor carvings reveal warnings of sealed creatures. The group discovers supplies are nearly gone (one day food, half day water).

Thomas enters a dark forest where 412 human faces are integrated into tree bark—souls trapped since various years including Rebecca Chen (1987). He recognizes his defining quality: purpose rather than fear. The forest acknowledges his intent to destroy the Network.
