Jim Crater summons Oliver Atchison and Elizabeth to present evidence that the Arcadia survives in orbit around Phargus, three years after the disaster. Jim, displaced after Maven Ophidian seized his fleet and imprisoned his family, proposes recovering the ship.

A suppressed classified document from Grand Archivist Solomon Krey reveals that Vanguard implants were reverse-engineered alien technology. Krey warns these implants create communication channels to an ancient alien intelligence aware of humanity for 300 years.
