Beach grief scene restructured as continuation of emotional arc begun at altar in Ch 26. Dam crack metaphor connects to altar rejection. Grief flows as sustained release rather than sudden eruption. Thomas's choice to live explicitly tied to altar rejection, Violet's release, and Harrow's example.

Harrow's transformation from villain to helper now dramatized through visible Doctor/father persona struggle. The Doctor fights for control throughout the scene. Thomas recognizes the parallels to his own grief. The turn is earned through Harrow physically wrestling his darker self for dominance.

Thomas reaches the far shore and navigates Harrow's nightmarish test gardens - surveillance roses with human eyes, carnivorous orchids consuming bodies. Finds a perfectly preserved Victorian gazebo where Patricia Harrow has held eternal vigil for seventy years.

Thomas enters the crypt beneath the corrupted church and discovers 100+ mummified bodies in various stages of failed transformation. He finds Patricia Harrow's suicide journal revealing her horror at watching James transform their daughter.

Thomas returns to the church now further corrupted. Finds hundreds-strong congregation led by a simulacrum of Father Michael — a between-state puppet wearing stolen features.

Thomas confronts Dr. Harrow/Doctor entity in operating chamber. Violet causes explosions that destroy the Doctor laboratory wing. Thomas escapes to surface through the forest. The deeper Architect sections and altar remain intact underground.

Thomas descends into the underground facility, discovers the operating theater and Harrow's Polaroid documentation of transformations. Finds blueprints showing five facility levels with Heart Chamber at the bottom. Takes the maintenance shaft route but it ends at Level 3.

Thomas explores surface hospital, witnesses patient transformation, escapes psychiatric ward. In fourth-floor research lab discovers five-level underground layout. Harrow warns destroying the Heart may annihilate trapped souls. Thomas displaced to manor grounds.

Thomas encounters massive ten-foot green creature—Timothy Walsh, security guard transformed 43 years ago and trapped between states, still conscious and suffering. Timothy begs for mercy killing. Thomas agrees, discovers original human heart within transformed body, strikes it to grant death.
