Verada Requiem

Ren discovers an underground pre-Immaculate shrine containing a green boneglass column during the eastern push, guided by his figurine. He brings Callum to assess it, and touching the column reveals a vast, patient divinity wholly distinct from Verada.

Fossick commandeers post-war supply logistics. Ren helps with inventory, finding relief in concrete, countable work after weeks of unanswerable questions. Fossick's tally reveals the army's material reality. Ren laughs for the first time since the Crucible — real laughter, not dark humor.

On the final night before the march east, Ren finds Moth at the camp depot. Moth breaks her two-year silence with four sentences: the ground remembers what grew before, it was wounded, the wound has not healed, and the Crucible is where the pain is open.

A military column from the Army of the Immaculate arrives at the crossroads and processes the group into its ranks. Ren observes branded soldiers closely, noting their inhuman efficiency and emptied expressions.

After the Fortress of Bone falls, Ren sits on the fortress wall where Harsk confesses his trembling hands and grief for his lost forge, and Ren reframes the loss so Harsk can carry it consciously.

Nella announces her second brand over breakfast in the matter-of-fact tone of a decision already made. Ren attends the branding ceremony and watches her endure the iron without screaming, the first brand having taught her to manage pain as data.

Ren returns to the Crucible ruins alone. The boneglass is dead — no warmth, no pulse. He walks through shattered formations recognizing passages from the infiltration. Moth appears, touches the boneglass, and it flickers faintly. She speaks: 'It's sleeping. Not dead.

The full coalition war council debates Crucible strategy: Lethane proposes divine frontal assault, Vasserine proposes a conventional siege, and Ren proposes infiltration through the formation's pre-existing mine shafts. A hybrid plan is adopted combining all three.

Six days after the silent town, the exhausted group rests at a crossroads shrine where Callum and Ren have a deep conversation about faith versus institutional certainty.
