Aram

Antagonist — World on Fire

Aram is Haatim's father — a high-ranking member of the Council of Chaldea who made choices he believed would protect his son. Whether those choices qualify as love or something far more dangerous is one of the questions the series doesn't answer easily.

About Aram

He had access. Influence. A position inside the organization that hunts demons professionally. And he used it in ways that had consequences reaching far beyond anything he intended — or claimed to intend.

Aram isn't a cartoon villain. He's a man who made deals he shouldn't have, convinced himself they were necessary, and found out far too late what that kind of reasoning costs everyone around you. He genuinely believed, apparently, that he was acting to protect Haatim. That conviction doesn't make his choices less catastrophic.

His ambition and his self-preservation instincts ran ahead of everything else. Calculating, in the way of people who are always measuring outcomes and always managing to put themselves on the survivable side of the ledger — right up until the moment his son found out exactly what he'd done.

Personality

Ambitious. Calculating. The kind of person who plans ahead because he's learned that most people don't. He carries a misguided certainty that his ends justify his means — and he's convincing enough about it that he almost sounds reasonable even as the costs pile up around him.

He loves his son in the way complicated, self-deceiving people love their children: genuinely, and badly.
