Abigail
Protagonist — World at War
Quiet. Deadly. Changed in ways she's still trying to understand. Abigail is the beating heart of the World at War series — a trained Hunter carrying abilities that blur the line between human and something far more powerful.
About Abigail
She didn't choose this life. Not exactly. Rescued from a cult as a young child by the legendary Hunter Arthur Vangeest, Abigail was forged into something extraordinary through years of brutal training. Arthur didn't just teach her to fight demons — he gave her a home, a purpose, and the closest thing to family she'd ever known.
But the world of demon hunting isn't kind to family. By the time World at War begins, she's been through things that would have broken most people. She was possessed by a powerful demon lord. She was put on trial before the Hunter Council. She descended into Hell itself to rescue Arthur — and when she came back, she came back different.
The golden eyes are the giveaway. They appeared after her confrontation with the demon lord Surgat at the end of the World on Fire trilogy. What exactly she is now, what she's capable of — that's something even Abigail is still working out. Six months later, she's been walking the world alone, hunting demons in the shadows, watching the Hunters from a distance, trying to understand herself before she risks coming back to the people she loves.
Personality
Core Traits: Abigail operates on a principle of action over words. She's quiet — genuinely, naturally quiet — not because she's shy but because she simply doesn't feel the need to fill silence. When she does speak, it lands. She puts up emotional barriers thick enough to keep most people out, and she's fiercely protective of the few who make it through. Independence runs deep in her; she'll solve a problem herself before she asks for help, even when asking would be the smarter move.
Strengths: She's an expert Hunter — combat trained, revolver-proficient, capable in exorcism techniques. But the transformation has given her something beyond training: golden eyes that can destroy demons with a look, telekinetic abilities, superhuman durability. She's also one of The Faithful, a group with gifts that the demon-hunting world is only beginning to understand.
Flaws: The same independence that makes her effective makes her lonely. She struggles to accept love even when it's freely given. The transformation terrifies her — not because of the power, but because of what it might mean for who she is. She isolates. She pushes people away.
Fears: Becoming a monster. Losing her humanity. Not being able to control what she's become. And, maybe most of all — Haatim seeing her as a weapon instead of a person.
Character Arc
From rescued child to supernatural Hunter to something that defies easy categorization — that's Abigail's arc, though calling it a summary undersells how brutal that journey has been. She survived possession. She survived the Council's politics. She went to Hell and came back with eyes that glow gold and powers she barely understands.
The World at War series finds her at a crossroads. She walked away from Haatim. She walked away from the Hunters. Not because she stopped caring, but because she cared too much to come back until she understood what she'd become. When the story forces her back into the light, the reunion is complicated, the stakes are higher than ever, and Abigail has to reckon with whether her abilities are a gift, a curse, or something in between.
