Last week I watched Claude Code try to figure out if my Spring Boot build succeeded. It ran the build, waited a few seconds, then tried to grep the terminal output. The regex missed the actual error because Maven's output format changed between versions. So it assumed success, moved on, and broke three things before I caught it.
The thing is, the AI had access to a shell. It could run commands. But it was operating blind — spawning a process, praying the output matched some pattern, and hoping for the best.
This is the state of AI terminal integration right now. And it's fixable.
