The Barone Family

Antagonist — World at War

Ancient bloodline. Political connections that run deep into the human world. A nightclub called The Crimson Veil that serves as a front for something much darker. The Barone Family are vampire nobility, and they're working with demons.

About the Barone Family

One of twelve vampire houses operating in the shadows of the human world, the Barone Family have spent centuries building exactly the kind of power that's hard to fight: judges, police officers, politicians — all in their pocket. They don't need to hide in the dark. They own the institutions that are supposed to shine light into it.

The Crimson Veil nightclub is their most visible operation, and it's there that the Barone Family's involvement in something called The Turning ritual comes to light. When a young woman named Emma is captured, the club becomes ground zero for a confrontation that pulls the surviving Hunters directly into the vampire-demon alliance that threatens to reshape the supernatural world.

The Barone Family represent something the Hunter Council has never fully reckoned with: enemies who have been operating legally, openly, and with impunity for a very long time.

Personality

Core Traits: Prominent, political, ancient. The Barone Family doesn't panic and doesn't improvise — they've had centuries to build contingencies. Their power is structural rather than physical, which makes them harder to fight than a demon lord with a bad temper.

Physical Presence: Ancient vampire nobility — the presentation of old money and older power.

Character Arc

The Barone Family's arc in the World at War series is a collision course with the reconstituting Hunter organization and their new allies among The Faithful. They underestimate what the Hunters have become. That's a common mistake among people who've been winning for a very long time.
