About Tim Spencer

Tim Spencer is a local man — regular, ordinary, not connected to Hunters or the Council or anything that would make him a target or a resource. And then something moves into him, and ordinary stops being an available option.

The possession scenario in The Everett Exorcism is frightening partly for this reason: Tim Spencer didn't do anything to deserve this. He was just there. In the wrong place, which was also his home.

What the demon does with him — hunting Father Paladina through the cathedral — is purposeful and precise. Tim Spencer is a vessel now, and the vessel is being pointed at someone specific.

Personality

Tim Spencer before the possession: unknown. Average. Whatever a person is before the worst thing happens to them.

Tim Spencer during: the demon uses him as a vehicle. There's a person in there somewhere, which is what makes exorcism what it is — not just stopping the demon but recovering what was there before. The hunting behavior in the cathedral is methodical and relentless. Tim Spencer is along for the ride in the most involuntary sense possible.

Character Arc

Tim Spencer's story is concentrated and complete in The Everett Exorcism. He arrives in the narrative as a threat and resolves within it. What happens to him — and to the thing inside him — is part of how the story's opening confrontation lands.
